3RD GENERATION FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS
P&S Travel Trailer Service has been owned and operated by the Ruth family for over 50 years. The idea of a business to refinishing Airstreams came about when Paul Ruth purchased a 1964 Airstream Overlander that was in need of such a service. In 1968, Paul and son Steve visited the Airstream Service Center at the factory in Jackson Center, Ohio to inquire if there was any interest in a refinishing business. The Ruth's received much encouragement from the factory personnel in their new venture and started working part-time on Airstreams from a nearby dealer in Toledo. This "part-time" business started to grow by word of mouth and within a year turned into a full time business for the family.
By 1970 Steve and his wife Becky are running P&S full time. In 1974 Paul and his wife Betty moved to Florida to manage Travelers Rest Airstream Park retiring in 1990. After retiring, they moved back to Ohio near the family farm. Paul passed away in January 2016.
Steve's son, Kevin joined the business in 1989 and the family expanded the business to include Zip Dee awning installation, metal replacement and collision work.
The Ruth Boys
The "Ruth Boys" are considered to be THE experts when it comes to anything Airstreams, being called upon by the Airstream factory and dealers to help solve problems. Whether you are the owner of a vintage or newer model Airstream, we have the knowledge and personnel to help you with just the finish, or a total refurbish of your beloved Airstream.
Our History
The Beginning
Paul Ruth, a farmer with a barn full of dairy cows, starts his own excavation business - 'Paul Ruth Conservation Contracting' digging ponds and surface drainage systems.
Airstreams
Paul trades some excavating work for a used Airstream trailer. After time it needed polishing. When he consulted with Airstream, no companies were doing this. So he & his son Steve took lessons from airplane polishers at Findlay, Ohio airport.
P&S Trailer Service
Paul and son Steve stuck out a sign and begin polishing Airstreams in a back building to keep busy in the summer and winter between farming. They polished 3 trailers the first year. P&S Trailer is born.
Move out the cows
As the polishing business grows and the dairy business declines, the dairy barn begins to slowly convert to bays for holding Airstreams. Steve and Becky Ruth now running business as a full time affair.
More Expansion
As the business continues to grow, the west end of the barn is cleared out for a 3rd polishing bay.
Third Generation
Steve's son, Kevin, joins the business full time and begins doing Airstream panel repair.
Hailstorm
A hailstorm hits the Airstream convention being held in South Dakota. Kevin is kept busy for 3 years replacing dented panels.
More than Polishing
P&S start to offer repairs and other mechanical work on Airstreams.
Commercial Trailers
P&S hires additional employees and starts customizing Airstreams for commercial businesses.
I Smell Food
P&S starts creating food and bar trailers for the booming food truck and special event business.
We Need More Room!
Another bay is added in the original dairy barn for a total of 4 work bays.
Airstream Rentals
Kevin purchases his first trailer for rental fleet. Commercial rental business grows quickly and now includes a stage trailer.
Fancy Fancy!
P&S Trailer partners with an interior design firm to begin producing top-of-the-line commercial business trailers.
Need Parts?
P&S opens their online parts store - AirstreamTrailerParts.com. ATP carries windows for 1970s-present Airstreams and other hard to find parts.
Brand Spankin' New
Kevin begins offering new model Airstream commercial trailers. Standard models are set up for food/bar service with large side serving window or trailers can be customized for your needs.
The Future
Kevin Ruth looks to a bright future in Airstream customizations, unique designs, custom fabrications, online parts and, of course, polishing.
