Can you walk into NJ DMV without an appointment? ›

Walk-ins are only allowed for first time licenses/IDs/permits, name changes, and red decals at Licensing Centers. Other MVC transactions that can't be completed online require an appointment that customers need to schedule at NJMVC.gov. Appointments at Licensing and Vehicle Centers must be scheduled at NJMVC.gov.

Directions to these sites and additional agency locations are available on our website, www.njmvc.gov. Please be advised that, historically, the best times to visit an MVC agency are mid-week, mid-month.

Appointments are required for: First-time license/permit (REAL ID or standard).

If you are ineligible to renew online, you must make an appointment to renew your registration in person. Appointments are required. You can also re-register a vehicle in NJ via U.S. mail.

Will REAL ID cost more than a Standard ID? Yes. The Standard NJ License/ID costs $24; REAL ID costs $35.

This includes a valid NJ driver license/non-driver identification card, a utility or credit card bill issued over the past 90 days, a checking or savings account statement from a bank or credit card union issued in the past 60 days, an original, unexpired lease or rental agreement, a tax bill, statement or receipt, or ...

You'll need to bring two proofs of residential address, one proof of your Social Security number and six other points of ID, which can range from your current driver's license to a tax bill. More information on REAL ID and all the paperwork here.

First go to NJ MVC's Mobile Unit Appointment Portal to select a service and book a time slot. Find Montgomery under Somerset Montgomery, by county. You must have an appointment to get a REAL ID. Walk-ups are not available due to the amount of time document verification takes for each appointment.

Can I get a REAL ID at my local DMV? ›

According to the DMV, residents interested in applying for a REAL ID compliant driver license or identification card must do the following: Make an appointment to visit a field office. Appointments can be made online by visiting www.dmv.ca.gov or by calling 1-800-777-0133.

Step 1: First thing, head over to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). You can't renew an expired license online, so you'll need to visit in person.

You will need to provide • proof of identity (“6 points of ID”). Check here for details. proof of New Jersey address; and • a Social Security number or ITIN, if you have one. o Individuals who do not have either a Social Security number or ITIN will be able to provide an affidavit to meet this requirement.

We encourage appointments for all inspections and re-inspections. We will service all customers as quickly and efficiently as possible and appointments will be serviced first. "Same Day" appointments may not be made.

No appointment necessary for plate surrenders. All other walk-ups will be handled at the discretion of NJ MVC. REAL-ID appointments required and limited.
